Microsoft AZ-104 Certification Preparation: Azure Administrator

This course covers the day-to-day administration of an Azure environment: identities and governance, storage, compute, virtual networking, monitoring and backup. The four days are built around labs in the portal, the CLI and ARM or Bicep templates, with regular AZ-104 style practice. You leave with admin habits you can apply straight away to your own subscriptions.

The exam

The AZ-104 exam lasts 100 minutes and usually has 40 to 60 questions, including multiple choice, drag and drop, hot area and case studies. You take it through Pearson VUE at a test centre or online with a remote proctor, and need 700 to pass. It is available in English, French and several other languages. During Associate exams Microsoft lets you open Microsoft Learn, although the timer keeps running. The certification is valid for one year and renews for free online; it is also the prerequisite for the Azure Solutions Architect Expert (AZ-305).

Preparation tips

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Is AZ-104 hard?

It is demanding because it covers many services and tests real hands-on skills. With the course and two to three weeks of practice in a lab, it is well within reach.

Do I need AZ-900 first?

No, it is not required. Experienced administrators can go straight to AZ-104, while newcomers often find AZ-900 a useful warm-up.

How long is the certification valid?

One year. Renewal is free, online and can be done during the six months before it expires.

What comes after AZ-104?

AZ-305 for architecture, AZ-700 for networking or SC-500 for cloud and AI security, depending on where you want to specialise.

Does the course include labs?

Yes. Every domain comes with labs in the Azure portal, on the command line and with infrastructure templates.
