The exam

The three-hour exam takes place on day five, online with remote proctoring via the PECB Exams app or on paper through a partner. According to the 2026 candidate handbook it has 80 multiple-choice questions, stand-alone or scenario-based, across six domains; planning (20 questions) and implementation (18) carry the most weight. It is open book and you need 70%. Depending on your experience, you then hold Provisional Implementer, Implementer, Lead Implementer (five years' experience including two in AI management, 300 project hours) or Senior Lead Implementer. Certification is valid for three years, with CPD and an annual maintenance fee.

Preparation tips

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Can I become a Lead Implementer without AI experience?

You can take the course and pass the exam, which gives you Provisional Implementer. Lead Implementer requires five years' experience, two of them in AI management, and 300 project hours.

Do I need to build AI models?

No. The course deals with governance and the management system. A general understanding of an AI system's lifecycle is enough.

Can ISO 42001 be integrated with an existing ISO 27001 ISMS?

Yes. Both standards share the common management system structure, so policy, internal audit and management review can be combined.

How long is the exam?

Three hours for 80 open-book multiple-choice questions.

Can I take the course online or in Casablanca?

Both. We run it as a live online class, in person in Casablanca, or on-site at your organization, taught in French or English depending on the group. For on-site sessions we can adapt examples and case studies to your sector and schedule the exam with you.
