The AIGP shows you can govern artificial intelligence responsibly, from building a model to running it in production. This three-day preparation follows the Body of Knowledge in force since February 2026 and ties each concept to real decisions: should this system go live, with which safeguards, and who is accountable for it? It suits legal, risk, security and data teams alike.

The exam
The AIGP exam is administered by the IAPP and follows Body of Knowledge version 2.1, in force since 2 February 2026. It consists of multiple-choice questions spread over four domains: foundations of AI governance, laws and standards, governing development, and governing deployment and use, with the last two carrying the most weight. As with other IAPP exams, scores run from 100 to 500 and 300 is the pass mark. After a failed attempt, you can retest no sooner than seven days later. Keeping the credential active requires IAPP membership or a maintenance fee.
Preparation tips
Prioritize the development and deployment domains, which carry the most weight
Be clear on the difference between provider and deployer obligations
Practice with scenarios: the exam asks for the best decision, not a definition
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Which version of the AIGP outline is current?
Body of Knowledge version 2.1, effective since 2 February 2026. Our materials follow this version.
Do I need to be an AI engineer to pass the AIGP?
No. The exam is about governance. You need to understand how models work in broad terms and where the risks lie, but you do not need to code. We spend half a day on the technical notions that matter.
Does the AIGP cover the EU AI Act?
Yes. The EU AI Act is part of the AI-specific regulation covered in the second domain, alongside other laws and reference standards.
What score do I need?
300 on a 100–500 scale. The score is scaled, so it does not map to a straight percentage of correct answers.
AIGP or ISO/IEC 42001: which should I choose?
The AIGP validates individual AI governance competence. ISO/IEC 42001 certifications focus on implementing or auditing an AI management system. The two complement each other well.
