PECB ISO/IEC 27701 Lead Implementer Training (2025 Edition): Deploy a PIMS

Completely redesigned by PECB in late 2025, this five-day course teaches you to design, deploy and improve a privacy information management system (PIMS) that conforms to ISO/IEC 27701:2025, now a stand-alone standard. You follow the path of a real project, from scoping to certification audit readiness, and sit the Lead Implementer exam on the last day.

The exam

The three-hour exam takes place on day five, online with remote proctoring via the PECB Exams app or on paper through a partner. It has 80 multiple-choice questions, stand-alone or scenario-based, across seven domains; implementing the PIMS alone accounts for 23. It is open book with a 70% pass mark. Depending on your experience, you then hold Provisional Implementer, Implementer, Lead Implementer (five years' experience including two in privacy, 300 PIMS project hours) or Senior Lead Implementer. Certification is valid for three years, with CPD and an annual maintenance fee.

Preparation tips

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

What changed in ISO/IEC 27701:2025?

Published on 14 October 2025, the new edition turns ISO/IEC 27701 into a stand-alone management system standard: you no longer need to build it on top of an ISO/IEC 27001 ISMS. Some clauses and Annex A controls were added, changed or removed, and the terminology was updated.

Do we need an ISO 27001 ISMS already?

Not since the 2025 edition: a PIMS can be deployed on its own. An existing ISMS is still an advantage, because some processes can be shared.

I am certified on the 2019 version. What now?

Your certification stays valid as long as you maintain it. PECB does, however, recommend a transition course to update your knowledge to the 2025 edition.

How does this relate to the GDPR?

A PIMS provides the structure and evidence that support GDPR compliance, without replacing the legal analysis the regulation itself requires.

Can I take the course online or in Casablanca?

Both. We run it as a live online class, in person in Casablanca, or on-site at your organization, taught in French or English depending on the group. For on-site sessions we can adapt examples and case studies to your sector and schedule the exam with you.
